Resolving Facebook Business Page Ownership

Whiskypoint Surfcabana - Arugambay

Social Media Asset Recovery & Branding

Challenge

When Mr. Rukshan, one of the partners of Whiskypoint Surfcabana, approached me to promote their hotel. I conducted a social media audit to assess their online presence. During the audit, I identified a major issue: there were two Facebook business pages with the same name, creating confusion among guests and limiting brand control.

The original page, created by a tourist over a year ago had:

  • The correct business location, making it the default check-in option for guests.
  • No access granted to the current business owners.
  • A different logo and outdated branding.

Meanwhile, the second page created by the business could not use the correct location and had less engagement, making it ineffective for marketing.

Approach & Solution

Since the original page was the primary check-in location, I prioritized recovering ownership rather than building engagement on the duplicate page.

My approach included:

Identifying the Original Admin:

  • I researched surf-related groups and found an old post from three years ago linking to the original page.
  • The post was shared by a Japanese individual who had managed the page.
  • Despite multiple attempts (via Facebook messages and email), I received no response, suggesting he was no longer active.

Escalating to Meta Support:

  • With no way to contact the admin, I initiated direct communication with Meta Support.
  • I participated in multiple meetings, where they required:

              – Business proof of ownership.

                – Technical details to verify legitimacy.

  • I coordinated with Mr. Rukshan, collecting and submitting all required documentation.

Successful Ownership Recovery:

  • After over 10 days of follow-ups and document submissions, Meta Support granted me access to the original business page.
  • This allowed the hotel to reclaim its correct business location, branding, and guest engagement.

Results & Impact

Restored access to the original page, allowing full control over branding and guest interactions.
Redesigned the hotel’s logo, aligning it with the new branding strategy.
Enhanced the check-in experience for guests, ensuring they tagged the correct business page.
Achieved 100% client satisfaction—Mr. Rukshan was highly pleased with the solution and its effectiveness.
